Council of the American Meteorological Society awards Sid Perkins annual award for Distinguished Science Journalism

京东影业影视传媒 & the Public (SSP), publisher of Science News magazine, announced today that the Council of the American Meteorological Society voted to designate Science News writer Sid Perkins recipient of the Distinguished Science Journalism Award in the Atmospheric and Related Sciences.
At its recent meeting, the Council selected Sid Perkins for the prestigious award 鈥渇or an insightful article providing lessons for modem society on global climate disruption from a Peruvian volcanic eruption in 1600 that created global societal impacts.鈥 Perkins鈥 article, 鈥淒isaster Goes Global,鈥 was originally published in August 2008 and can be found at 聽www.sciencenews.org/view/feature/id/35245/title/Disaster_Goes_Global.
The award presentation by the American Meteorological Society to Sid Perkins will be during the organization鈥檚 90th annual meeting, at an Awards Banquet to be held January 20, 2010, at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia. A full list of award winners can be found at聽.
Sid Perkins has covered earth sciences and paleontology for Science News since 2000. In 2002 he was co-awardee, with Science News writer Ron Cowen, of the American Astronomical Society’s Solar Physics Division’s Popular Science Writing award.
